The top 16 female celebrities on this year’s highest paid women in the entertainment industry list earned a combined $1.17 billion dollars (before deducting fees for taxes, managers, lawyers, and agents) over the past 12 months proving that a stellar business acumen can make you very wealthy. Female celebrity earnings are estimates only and are sourced from data provided by Nielsen Music, Pollstar, IMDB, NPD BookScan, and ComScore, in addition to interviews with numerous industry experts including agency managers and agents, company executives, and many of the female stars themselves. The result is the definitive index of who’s making the most money in the global business of fame.

For the second time ever, famous country & pop singer Taylor Swift has sung and danced her way to the top of the annual global Forbes Celebrity 100 list of the world’s highest earning female entertainers, making $185 million in the last 12 months. For those that simply love math, that comes out to more than $506,849.31 per day, even when Taylor Swift takes the day off.
Though the top of this year’s Celebrity 100 list is packed with female superstars, only 16 women made the list in total. The imbalance indicates the gender pay gap existing throughout the entertainment industry – whether it be on the field (no female athletes made the cut this year) or on the big screen. It is also important to note that this year more than half of the highest paid female celebrities are musicians (it proved more difficult for actresses and supermodels to earn enough money to make the list of the highest paid women in the entertainment industry).
In recent weeks, much has been said of the fact that Taylor Swift doesn’t own her old master recordings. However, as part of her new music contract with Republic Records, Taylor Swift will have a chance to gain control of her future music efforts. Another good sign: the 16 women on the list of the 100 highest paid celebrities (men and women) in the entertainment industry earned $1.17 billion dollars. These big budget films (Avengers: Endgame’s movie production budget was approximately $356 million) pay actors more upfront and traditionally do better at the box office (meaning a larger overall profit which benefits those actors and actresses who earn a percentage of those movie profits). Unfortunately, these big budget movies are more often led by male actors instead of actresses.
