Mi ricordo quando da giovane ragazzo guardavo Disney Channel e mi sentivo catturato dalla magia e perfezione del fantastico mondo Disney. Ero molto nervoso per la mia prima audizione Disney, non sapevo se fossi eccitato o ansioso, ma più o meno mi sentivo così.
La mattina dell’audizione sapevo che avevo bisogno di essere favolosa (che di solito faccio, fatta eccezione per i giorni in cui sono malata o pigra). Ma il fantastico mondo-Disney e il mondo di strada non sono sempre gli stessi. Disney vuole talento che si adatta al “marchio Disney”, il che è un aspetto molto specifico. Mi ricordo di un audizione in cui il mio orario era alle 8:00 ma sottovalutai il traffico (errore da principiante) e arrivai alle 8:05. Mi dissero, “Ci sono molte altre ragazze che sono arrivate puntuali e quindi non ti vedremo oggi.” Ahia. Ma non aveva torto. Tutti apprezzano la puntualità ed io avevo sbagliato. Ora mi concedo sempre un sacco di tempo per perdere tempo nella lobby, scaldarmi, guardare dei video sui gatti sul mio cellulare –tutto ciò che serve per non essere mai in ritardo; lezione imparata in maniera dura.
Una volta parcheggiato (perfettamente 20 minuti prima del mio orario di audizione), presi le mie foto ritratto ed il curriculum e ancora una volta le consegnai. Era aggiornato, sembravo felice e sorridente, e mi rappresenta veramente, come sono io. Il mio curriculum era organizzato. Tutto sembrava giusto. Ma il mio cuore batteva ancora forte da quando avevo iniziato a camminare lungo i due isolati dalla mia macchina allo studio.
Quando sono entrata , un membro del Cast molto amichevole mi ha accolta e mi ha detto di registrarmi e prendere posto. Ora stavo veramente provando l’adrenalina! Ho pensato “Sto per fare un provino per la Disney; questo è un grosso opportunità!” Hanno chiamato il nome e non ho nè galleggitato nè mi sono teletrasportata verso la porta. Mi sentivo nervosa al solo pensiero di essere di fronte a così tante persone importanti. Sapevo di aver fatto il provino di fronte al direttore del casting, un ruolo che ho avuto modo di conoscere bene. Il ruolo di un direttore del casting è scovare talenti e scegliere i migliori attori per il ruolo/ruoli. Dopo, a questi attori è chiesto di tornare per mostrare il loro materiale al direttore, produttore, scrittore o qualsiasi altra persona che investa tempo nel processo di casting. Ho dovuto ricordare a me stessa che sembrano intimidatori ma in realtà sono solo persone. Quando sono stata accompagnata dentro non ero sicura di dover stringere loro le mani, o perlomeno a quali delle tre persone che erano sedute dietro il piccolo tavolo del destino. Un uomo con i baffi mi porse la mano per primo e feci del mio meglio per mostrarmi rilassata; “Sono solo persone” ripetei a me stessa.
Ho detto il mio nome e l’agenzia direttamente alla telecamera (è chiamato “slating”) ll che è abbastanza tipico. Quasi tutte le audizioni che ho fatto sono state filmate, quindi sapevo che non era niente di difficile. Per questa audizione, mi hanno fatto leggere delle battute con un’altra persona (chiamata lettore), che mi ha aiutato a sentirmi più a mio agio. A volte quando il lettore non è ovviamente un attore può mostrarsi abbastanza rigido, ma questa signora ha chiaramente avuto alcuni spezzoni. Ho iniziato la mia battuta. Ho sentito le mie mani tremare e la mia voce spezzata e sconvolta, come un ragazzo adolescente o un piccolo giocattolo cigolante. “Sono qui per mostrare a loro che sono perfetta per questo ruolo“, mi sono detta. Ho schiarito la gola e ho continuato.

Mi è stato chiesto di piangere o, di parlare con un accento divertente o di “farlo più grande!” Qualche volta è veramente snervante, ma questa volta mi sentivo come se stessi “vendendo sicurezza”. Ho fatto un respiro profondo e ho pensato, “Non ti preoccupare di ‘far bene’; puoi farlo.”Ho sentito le mie mani nervose diventare più ferme, la mia voce fracassante crescere più fiduciosa e quando ho aperto la bocca per parlare: ero quel ninja che Sapevo avere in me.
