History

Creative Artists Agency (CAA) was formed by five agents at the William Morris Agency in 1975. At a dinner, Michael Ovitz, Michael S. Rosenfeld, Ronald Meyer, Rowland Perkins, and William Haber decided to create their own agency. Legend says that the agents were fired by the William Morris Agency before they could obtain financing.

Talent Agency Competition

Creative Artists Agency (CAA) was formed in 1975 from defections from the William Morris Agency.

In 2009, William Morris Agency and Endeavor merged to form William Morris Endeavor (WME).

In 2014, William Morris Endeavor (WME) bought IMG Worldwide (a fashion and sports agency) for $2.4 billion United States dollars.

Today, the world’s top 3 talent agencies for actresses compete by regularly poaching agents and clients from one another. As of 2025, the big four talent agencies have been reduced to the big three talent agencies with the third agency being United Talent Agency (UTA). The fourth talent agency was International Creative Management (ICM) which was acquired by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in late 2021.

As of 2025, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), William Morris Endeavor (WME), and United Talent Agency (UTA) are among the largest talent agencies in the world for actresses and other members of the entertainment industry.
