How To Get Started In Modeling For Teenagers – Health First

Being a professional fashion model means taking care of your body which includes a healthy diet, lifestyle, and proper sleep (at least 8 hours of a good night sleep since this is the time when your cells regenerate so that you can look more beautiful and pretty). Don’t depend on Photoshop to “fix” you. Photographers and fashion clients still want to see a girl who has beautiful hair and a glowing skin complexion.

How To Get Started In Modeling For Teens And Teenage Girls – A Beautiful Personality

Fashion clients need to enjoy working with you and doing photo shoots with you. Attitude and personal problems must be left at the door. Having a professional work ethic is needed to succeed in the fashion modeling industry and become a successful fashion model. A lot of work as a model will come from repeat bookings and regular clients. Your main objective should be to leave a photo shoot with everyone wanting to work with you again. In the fashion modeling industry business, it doesn’t take long for word of mouth to make or break your fashion modeling career. A beautiful personality is extremely important if you are also the face of a brand and do model interviews (press interviews) representing specific fashion brands as the following fashion model interviews and press event illustrates.

How To Get Started In Modeling – Confidence, Persistence, And Determination Are Extremely Important For Becoming A Successful Fashion Model

Allow yourself to open up and be yourself in front of the camera. Fashion photographers love to work with models that are confident in themselves and not self conscious about their looks, appearance, and/or their posing skills for the photo shoot. Being confident, having the ability to move freely and correctly, and giving a range of expressions is key to getting that perfect beautiful shot. It is also very important to not take anything personally, specially rejections. Fashion models that generally succeed are able to handle continuous rejection from fashion clients. There are a number of top models and supermodels who heard plenty of no’s before they developed an incredibly successful fashion modeling career.

How To Get Started In Modeling For Women And Teenagers – A Beautiful Fashion Model Personality Matched With The Perfect Modeling Agency

Having the right look, height, and body size as a fashion model will definitely get the attention of a modeling agent at a top modeling agency, but also having a beautiful personality can help you in that final step which is actually getting signed by a top modeling agency (getting the initial model interview with a top fashion modeling agency will not help you much if you can’t seal the deal and get signed by a top modeling agency). Don’t underestimate how important personality plays in getting signed by a modeling agency and in becoming a top model.

How To Get Started In Modeling And How To Get A Modeling Agent – Choose A Market And Location

In fashion modeling there are various different markets and selecting the one that you are most suitable for will have a major effect on your success as a fashion model. Location is extremely important in modeling, and if you are not in the right city and country and you are not willing to move you probably will not make it as a successful fashion model simply because there simply will not be enough modeling work for you. Major fashion markets in the United States include Los Angeles for models located in the Western United States and New York for models located in the Eastern United States in addition to London, Paris, and Milan in Italy.

Take a look at our fascinating stories about the “Money Girls – The Highest Paid Models In The World” and you will see that at some point in their modeling careers these top models eventually moved to either New York, London, Paris, or Milan (the fashion capitals of the world). However, it is important to note that selecting the right market for you is the job of your modeling agent and your modeling agency since top modeling agencies will generally know what will work best for you based on your particular look.

How To Get Started In Modeling For Teens And Teenage Girls – Money Is Not Required

This is the area that causes the most confusion with potential new models in the fashion modeling industry. Top modeling agencies will either pay for all of your portfolio development expenses such as photo shoots for developing your book (your modeling portfolio) or they will advance you the expenses which basically means that they will subtract what you owe them from your future modeling paychecks once you start modeling with your modeling agency. The third scenario (and this is where you can distinguish the top modeling agencies from the rest) is when a modeling agency asks you to pay for everything upfront that relates to developing your modeling portfolio.

As of the date of this writing and for over a decade ZARZAR MODELS has never required money from models for photo shoots or in order to sign them with the agency and instead earns a percentage of the earnings generated by the model. You do not need to hire expensive photographers in order to apply to our modeling agency and be considered as a potential ZARZAR MODEL (simple well taken Polaroids by a relative or friend will be sufficient). If a modeling agency is truly interested in signing you and really believes in you they will invest in you.

How To Get Started In Modeling For Teenagers – Types Of Modeling Jobs

Another important thing to consider when starting a modeling career is that there are several types of modeling areas that you can pursue as a fashion model. For example, ZARZAR MODELING AGENCY also known around the world as ZARZAR MODELS has 4 major divisions which include “Editorial & Print”, “Runway”, “Film & Television”, and a 4th division which represents fashion models that are the faces of major brands at press events, etc. which is why a beautiful personality is extremely important. Selecting what division you will be best at in modeling is also the job of your modeling agent and modeling agency after talking with you and discussing your modeling goals, etc.

How To Get Started In Acting – Do I Need An Acting Agent (Talent Agent) To Become An Actress? How To Become An Actress And What Is SAG-AFTRA? Why You Need An Acting Agent (Talent Agent) To Become A Successful And Famous Actress

Many models at some point in their modeling careers consider the option of acting for major motion pictures, television shows, and television commercials with speaking roles. Many models are able to get started in acting with no problems while other models do not do as well in their acting careers and constantly struggle to get major acting roles or even secondary acting roles. Becoming an actress is not extremely difficult, but becoming a very successful and famous actress is something completely different that requires acting training, education about the acting industry, discipline, personality, very well developed acting skills, charisma, networking, passion, and most importantly having the right acting agent (talent agent) to help you to become as successful as possible in your acting career.

How To Get Started In Acting And How To Get An Acting Agent (Talent Agent) To Become An Actress

The business of acting covers many different things such as unions, acting auditions, acting casting calls, acting contracts, and of course acting agents (talent agents). While many will not agree with this, specially because there are always exceptions, it is safe to say that in general (again, there are always exceptions) having an acting agent and an acting agency (a talent agency) is the first step in distinguishing amateur and sometimes professional actresses from highly successful and famous professional actresses. For example, if you live in Los Angeles it will be extremely difficult to get principal leading roles in major motion pictures and movies without an acting agent (talent agent) representing you. You might be the most talented actress in the entire world but it will be extremely difficult for you to get major acting roles if no one in the acting industry knows who you are and what amazing things you can do as an actress.

Promoting an actress (in this case you) is the job of an acting agent and the acting agency which represents actresses (in this case you being one of the actresses). An acting agency (talent agency) could have dozens or even hundreds of acting agents, talent agents, and/or employees (this is common for the largest acting agencies and/or talent agencies in Los Angeles Southern California) with the objective of getting their actresses as much acting work around the world as possible. Try to find a successful and famous actress that is currently acting in major motion pictures and movies and does not have acting representation from a major acting and talent agency. While certainly possible, it is indeed rare.

What Kind Of Agent Do I Need?

Now that we have explained why you need an acting agent (talent agent) it is important to explore the different types of agents that are available to represent actresses. Commercial agents handle television commercials, voice-over agents handle radio and off-camera work, theatrical agents handle movies, television shows, stage, and theatre. There are also other types of talent agents such as modeling agents (think ZARZAR MODELS), as well as talent agents that focus on professional sport athletes, musicians, authors and writers, film directors, producers, broadcast journalists, and other members of the entertainment industry. Even within each major area you can find different specialties such as fashion runway, commercial print, editorial print, fashion print, etc. for modeling agents and modeling agencies (all these areas of modeling are covered by our modeling agency). Typically, the larger the agency the more specialized the agents.

For actors and actresses, theatrical and commercial is where most of the acting work is so from a business perspective you probably want to make sure that you are represented by an acting agency (talent agency) that handles acting work in these areas. Acting agents are also franchised or not franchised. A franchised agent is one who is licensed to represent union performers. Union pay is sometimes much better than non-union pay, and you will get benefits that non-union actors might not get, which brings us to one of the most common questions that beginning actresses ask and that is “what in the world is SAG-AFTRA and why should I care?” which is the subject of our next section.

How To Become An Actress And What Is SAG-AFTRA?

One of the first things that confuses beginning actresses and beginning actors is SAG-AFTRA, specially when a beginning actress is asked for the very first time if she is a member of the union or a member of SAG-AFTRA (a beginning actress will generally be asked this question during her first acting role either as a principal actress, a supporting actress, or a background actress which is known as an extra). Her first response is usually a blank stare followed by “what union” or “SAG-AFTRA what?” followed by a very confused look which even an actress can generally not fake. The union that most actresses and actors generally refer to in the United States is called SAG-AFTRA. Better known by the general public as the Screen Actors Guild or SAG for short it was an American labor union representing over 105,000 film and television actresses, actors, principals, and background performers (known as extras) worldwide. On March 30, 2012 the SAG union leadership announced that the SAG membership voted to merge with the American Federation Of Television And Radio Artists known as AFTRA to create SAG-AFTRA.

SAG-AFTRA For Actresses And Actors – Should I Join SAG-AFTRA? Is SAG-AFTRA Right For Me As A Beginning Actress?

Today SAG-AFTRA represents more than 165,000 actresses, actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists, and other media professionals. SAG-AFTRA members are the faces and voices that entertain and inform America and the world. With national offices in Los Angeles and New York, and local offices nationwide, SAG-AFTRA members work together to secure the strongest protections for media artists into the 21st century and beyond.

SAG-AFTRA brings together two great American labor unions: the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation Of Television And Radio Artists. Both were formed in the turmoil of the 1930’s with rich histories of fighting for and securing the strongest protections for actresses, actors, and other media artists. Its members united to form the successor union known as SAG-AFTRA in order to preserve those hard-won rights and to continue the struggle to extend and expand those protections for actresses, actors, and other members of the entertainment industry. If you do decide to join SAG-AFTRA it is important to remember that you will have to pay membership fees every single year (this will be covered in detail in other ZARZAR MODELS articles for actresses) and you will not be allowed to work on non-union movies, non-union television shows, non-union television commercials, etc.

Above: The Highest Paid Television Actresses In The World – The Highest Paid Television Actresses In Hollywood.

By this point fashion models and runway models that are interested in expanding into acting and developing an acting career might be wondering if there is an equivalent union for fashion models and runway models. The answer is that there is no comparable union for models, fashion models, and runway models in the modeling industry which is why you want to make sure that you are represented by a world class modeling agency if possible (for example, many of our models from around the world have appeared on magazine covers and/or fashion editorials from prestigious fashion magazines and publications as well as appeared in national and international fashion advertising campaigns).

“If there are no acting agents, acting agencies, or talent agencies within several hundred miles of where you live, there probably is no paying work where you live.”

Remember that the focus of this article on how to become an actress is to also discuss the business of acting: earning money, making a living thanks to your acting jobs, and building a professional acting career. You are probably going to spend a lot of time, energy, and money developing your acting career so it is extremely important for you to take a lot of time thinking about which acting agency (talent agency) is right for you. What might be the perfect acting agency (talent agency) for your best friend might not be the best acting agency (talent agency) for you. Also, if you live far away from Los Angeles or New York in a very small town in the middle of nowhere you might be doing yourself a favor by eventually moving to Los Angeles or New York where the agents (and the money) are located. Try driving several hundred miles for a five minute acting audition and then driving back home, then do the same thing the next day for the call back (a second audition to see if you can get the acting job). You will be exhausted from acting in no time, and your travel expenses will definitely diminish your earnings from acting.

Above: Beautiful Brunette Actress Kristen Stewart Modeling For Vogue Italia Magazine Modeling As The Highest Paid Actress In The World Earning Approximately $34.5 Million United States Dollars For The Year.

If there are no acting agents and acting agencies (talent agencies) in your small town, it is probably because there is no acting work in your small town (if that is the case try to find the nearest town with an acting agency and ask if they work with the larger acting agencies in Los Angeles Southern California or New York). Local libraries, colleges, and universities with acting programs and acting degrees are also great starting points for starting your research and your search for your perfect acting agency and acting agent. Some beginning actresses go as far as contacting local production companies and local television stations and asking them for recommendations on reputable and prestigious acting agencies (talent agencies) which is what we meant by saying that you will probably spend a lot of time, money, and energy in developing your acting career.

Film And Movie Auditions You Will Encounter As A Young Actress – The Danger Of Acting And Modeling Without Agency Representation

As a young actress, you will be exposed to many different kinds of projects. You will experience shoots that are super exciting and amazing to be a part of, and you will also experience frustrating gigs that will challenge your patience. Not all of these will be worth your time; not all of these will be a waste of your time. It’s important to learn what is valuable work experience and what is someone blatantly taking advantage of your time and your talent.

First off: The Creeps. There will be many people (mainly men) that will try to get you to take your clothes off for films. Now, if HBO is asking you to do a nude scene and you’re comfortable with the material, your body, and you want to do it, then by all means go for it. However, don’t be disillusioned to think Mr. Joe Schmoe is going to “get you places” if you do a topless scene for his Indie short. Indie short does not equal HBO series. The distinction here is not only the exposure (pun intended) but also the professionalism. If someone is making you uncomfortable or asking you to do something you’re just not comfortable doing, guess what? You’re in charge of your body and you don’t have to do it. You may lose the job, but you will save yourself a lot of heartache. Furthermore, if you are comfortable getting naked for an Indie short, then go ahead! There’s nothing shameful about nudity for the sake of art, regardless of who tries to tell you otherwise. It’s just a matter of what you feel up for and if you’re okay with what you’re doing and the way you’re being treated. Never do anything you don’t passionately want to do.

For example, I had a filmed audition that I just felt weird about. The casting director (slash co-star, slash director, slash producer, etc—red flag number one) asked me all these really personal questions that had nothing to do with my acting abilities or what I could bring to the project. He also sat uncomfortably close to me on the “casting couch” and was just being odd: he told me how pretty I was, and commented on the size of my breasts. He then asked me, “Is there any reason I should keep the camera rolling? Anything else you can… do?” I immediately inferred what was going on and humorously deflected saying, “I can juggle!” and got myself out of there as soon as possible. Regardless of what his intentions actually were, I didn’t feel comfortable and there is probably a very good reason why. This brings me to my next bit of advice: follow your instincts.

A woman’s intuition is strong. If you feel like something isn’t right- with any social situation, professional or otherwise- chances are there’s a reason. You’re not just “being paranoid” or “reading too much into it;” you feel uncomfortable because your upbringing has taught you social norms and this situation is breaking those norms. It’s important to trust your instincts, and not be afraid to speak up. This is an area I really struggle with. Often times, I will sense a situation is amiss, or could potentially be dangerous to me as a woman, but I continue out of obligation or fear of being rude. Learn from my mistakes. People will make you uncomfortable without realizing it and if you bring it to their attention perhaps they will be more conscientious of their behavior in the future. Maybe not, but at least you spoke your mind and looked out for your own safety.

This one time, I was meeting a potential client in a private residence, and as I got into the elevator I realized that I was alone with two strange men in a secluded building. I felt fear sink its talons into my racing heart as I continued down the narrow hallway to what could have been my demise. My fears were nullified and I ended up having a very prolific meeting with said client and everything turned out fine, but that doesn’t invalidate the fear I felt in the elevator. While the clients did not intend me harm, they were just being oblivious to the fact that I could have felt uncomfortable with the situation. You will encounter this a lot: people that aren’t ill intending or malicious, but they just don’t realize the world that women live in.

Other clients you may encounter might be the inconsiderate kinds that disrespect your time. There’s a saying in the business that being an actress is the job of “hurry up and wait.” You are expected to be on time or early for your call time promptly at 5am, but then you may wait around until 11:30am before you even get on camera. This is normal. However, it’s important to know your worth. If you’re just starting out and have nothing on your resume, know that people will treat you like this because they can. You need them more than they need you. You need the experience and the credential on your resume, and they just need a body. Ultimately, you will graduate beyond this treatment, but it may be a while before you are at this point.

Very early in my career I was filming for a music video and I was the only actress on set. Everything was dandy until the actual musician arrived. He was a big hot shot and I was a lowly nobody so they put me in holding for another six hours while they filmed all of his scenes. Six hours later, they woke me from my catnap and said, “you’re wrapped!” I couldn’t believe that they kept me waiting for so long for literally nothing. However, with no one else to stand beside me, and having been paid a flat day rate, I really didn’t feel like I had any grounds to contest my time being wasted. Another instance, I was an extra on a student film and I was kept for four hours longer than originally expected. The other extras and I banded together to ask for overtime for the extra time we were kept beyond eight hours (there’s a whole system for overtime payment). If it hadn’t been for the others in my group saying, “yes, we deserve more money,” I might have not bothered asking, and I wouldn’t have gotten the extra payment. But, because I asked, I received more money and left feeling a sense of worth and that my time and talent was respected.

These are just a few examples of situations you may encounter as a new actress. It is important to know that these happen mainly to unrepresented actresses, which most newbies are, but that this is not common to those with agents getting them the work. The projects I’ve mentioned were all castings I found via Actor’s Access, LA Casting, or (yes, admittedly) Craigslist, but I did not have representation backing me. Once you have an agent, you will get much more reputable clients that (hopefully) will treat you with more respect than the lower-end projects. However, as they say, one must “pay their dues.” There will be creeps to weed through and long hours for little pay, but there will also be art and the magic of showbiz. Follow your instincts, stick to your guns, and learn from those around you until you’re the one writing to new actresses and you can look back and laugh.

My name is Amanda and I write for ZARZAR MODELING AGENCY which is best known around the world as ZARZAR MODELS. I am not represented by ZARZAR MODELS but the agency wanted me to share my experiences about acting and modeling without agency representation. In particular, ZARZAR MODELS makes sure that its models are treated with the highest respect including making sure that its fashion models and actresses do not have to wait beyond a certain amount of time during modeling and acting auditions. In addition, ZARZAR MODELS is extremely selective in the clients that it works with in order to make sure that its models and actresses do not have to face many of the dangerous situations faced by actresses and models that are not represented by an agency. Furthermore, ZARZAR MODELS does not allow nudity of any kind (including implied nudity, etc.) for its fashion models and actresses making it a truly unique and one of a kind modeling agency.
