One of the major concerns of actresses that are just starting out is where they should live in order to start and launch their acting careers. “What is the best location to start an acting career?” is a question ZARZAR MODELS often gets asked by new fashion models and actresses, but the response is often the same. It depends.

Unless you are living in one of the top three major acting cities of the world – Los Angeles, New York City, or London – chances are that you are already thinking about taking that significant first step by moving to one of these fabulous metropolitan acting cities. Are we correct? Well, you don’t necessarily have to do this in the beginning of your acting career because it all comes down to your personal and professional goals, and there are also plenty of alternatives to these famous acting cities.

Do You Have To Leave Your Hometown Right Now?

First of all, the rumors are true: the big three acting cities have the largest number of opportunities for aspiring actresses. Here is how this is broken down by acting city:

Los Angeles – Most film and television jobs in the entire world.
New York City – The capital of stage plays.
London – The United Kingdom’s center for film, television, and stage plays and the acting capital of Europe.

However, that doesn’t mean that all the acting projects are done there, and it is important to know that there are many locations with thousands of castings done, film productions, and stage plays providing many acting opportunities for local actresses.

Actresses living in smaller acting markets should take advantage of the fact that you might be able to get more acting experience, training, and knowledge simply because there is a lot less competition. Saving money is also easier in a smaller town than it is in an expensive city like Los Angeles, New York City, or London.

Los Angeles, New York City, & London

Not only are Los Angeles, New York City, and London extremely expensive, but the pressure that new actresses receive during their first year of staying there can sometimes make them jump into their cars and drive back to where they came from without looking over their shoulders even once, making it an extremely frustrating experience for women that were trying to successfully start their acting careers.

To put it simply, if you are from one of the major cities for acting (Los Angeles, New York City, or London), then good for you. But if you are from a smaller market for actresses, then please do not stress and use all of the acting resources that are currently available to you as an actress. Do not rush, do not panic, and most importantly, do not think that you are losing on valuable acting opportunities (you might be losing on valuable acting opportunities, but it is important to be positive so that hopefully you can replace those lost acting opportunities with different acting projects in your local acting market).

Small Town Advantages For New Actresses

The advantage of taking first acting career steps in a smaller town is that there is a lot less competition from other actresses. Acting is a marathon, not a sprint, therefore building your acting experience is what matters the most if you want to sustain your career over a period of decades. Once you’ve taken the advantage of everything your location has to offer for actresses, then it may be time to start thinking about the move to one of the three major cities for actresses (Los Angeles, New York City, or London).

You can either take your chances and move to one of the big three cities for actresses (Los Angeles, New York City, or London), or take a perhaps safer bet with your acting career and see what other great acting cities have to offer you as a new actress. The choice is up to you.

I remember watching Disney Channel as a young teenager and feeling so caught up in the magic and perfection of the wonderful world of Disney. Disney is this entity that we all know and love and want a piece of, but landing a gig with Disney is no walk in the park; the company prides itself on hiring the best, brightest, and most talented people for its TV shows, movies and theme parks. I was so nervous for my first Disney audition I didn’t know if I was elated or gassy, but I was somewhere in that zone.

The morning of the audition I knew I needed to look fabulous (which I usually do, sick days and lazy days excluded). But Disney-fabulous and street-fabulous aren’t always the same. Disney wants talent that fits the “Disney brand,” which is a very specific look. My Aussie friend, Aleisha, has worked at Disney parks all over the world, including Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland, and she helped me pick out what to wear. I was auditioning for the grown-up version of a character on an existing Disney Channel show, Best Friends Whenever. I dressed in all black and looked sleek and tough, since I was playing an awesome ninja, but Aleisha reminded me that I still needed to look wholesome and not too sexy. She suggested I tie a flannel shirt around my waist to offset the otherwise tight black pants. I put on a smidge of make up and headed out feeling pumped.

Like all auditions, I knew I needed to be on time. It’s important to show that you’re serious and excited to be there, so I always plan to arrive super early (at least 15 minutes). I remember one audition where my time slot was 8:00am but I just barely underestimated traffic (rookie mistake) and I arrived at 8:05. I was told, “There are plenty of other girls who were here on time and we won’t be seeing you today.” Ouch. But she wasn’t wrong. Everyone appreciates punctuality and I messed up. I now always give myself tons of time to hang out in the lobby, warm up, look at cat videos on my phone– whatever it takes to never be late again; lesson learned the hard way.

Once I parked (a perfect 20 minutes ahead of my audition time), I grabbed my headshot and resume and gave it a once-over. It was current, I looked happy and smiley, and I felt like it accurately represented what I looked like. My resume was organized. It all looked good. But my heart was still racing as I walked the two blocks from my car to the studio.

When I got inside, a very friendly Cast Member greeted me and told me to sign in and have a seat. Now I was really feeling the adrenaline! I thought, “I’m about to go audition for Disney; this is a big deal!” They called my name and I either floated or teleported towards the door. I felt nervous about being in front of such important people. I knew I’d be auditioning for a casting director, a title I’d come to know well. A casting director’s job is to weed through talent and pick out the best actors for the role(s). Then, those actors are asked to return for a callback to show their stuff to the director, producer, writer, or anyone else invested in the casting process. I had to remind myself that they may seem intimidating, but they’re just people. When I was led in I wasn’t sure if I should shake their hands, or even whose hand to shake since there were three people sitting behind this small table of fate. A mustached gentleman offered his hand first, and I did my best to relax; “They’re just people.” I thought to myself.

I said my name and agency directly to the camera, (called “slating”), which is pretty typical. Almost all auditions I’ve done have been videotaped, so I knew that was nothing to sweat. For this audition, they had me reading lines with another person, (who’s called a reader), which helped me to feel more at ease. Sometimes when the reader is obviously not an actor it can feel pretty stiff, but this lady clearly had some chops. I started my lines. I could feel my hands shaking and my voice kind of cracked and wavered, like an adolescent boy or a small squeaky toy. “I’m here to show them why I’m perfect for this role,” I reminded myself. I cleared my throat and continued.

After I’d read through the whole scene, the man with the slight mustache asked me to do it again, but this time he said he wanted me to really “exude confidence” and “sell it.” I knew one of the most important things to demonstrate as an actor is that you can accept direction. I’ve been asked to cry, or to speak with a funny accent, or to “do it bigger!” Sometimes it’s really nerve-wracking, but this time I felt like I could totally “sell it.” I took a deep breath and thought, “Don’t worry about ‘getting it right;’ you can do this.” I felt my shaky hands turn steadier, my cracking voice grow more confident, and when I opened my mouth to speak: I was that ninja that I knew I had in me.

As I bounded back to my little blue car I leapt in the air for a heel click and squealed, “I did it!” I was on cloud nine. Each audition is different and it’s sometimes hard to determine whether I did well or not; but I felt like I gave it my all… Ultimately, I never did get a callback. But when it comes down to it, I just wasn’t what they were looking for, so I don’t beat myself up about not booking the part. What matters is that I booked the room and nailed the audition — and that’s the uphill part of the battle.

Walt Disney Audition Tips – How To Audition For Disney Channel And Walt Disney Studios

Good quality photos on standard letter size paper are best when you audition for Walt Disney Studios or for when you audition for the Disney Channel. You always want to make sure that the photo that you use for your Walt Disney acting resume is representative of the way that you currently look and not the way that you used to look when you were younger. In other words, if you change your appearance or your look in any way, you should update the headshot on your Disney acting resume as quickly as possible. As you choose a photo for your Disney acting resume, remember that your headshot is the calling card that you leave behind for the Disney casting team to remember you, so make sure that it is the best possible representation of who you are and how you currently look.

Always remember to keep your Walt Disney acting resume to one page and list your most recent experience and accomplishments first, and do not worry if you have limited acting experience. Staple or glue your Disney acting resume securely to the back of your beautiful headshot, or have it printed directly on the back of your photo.

How To Become A Movie Extra And How To Become An Extra For Television Shows And An Extra For Television Commercials

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in blockbuster movies such as “Transformers”, “Iron Man”, “The X-Men”, or “Superman” and have not just your family and friends see you in action but the entire world? Have you ever dreamed of being in Walt Disney movies or in any of the major motion pictures developed and produced by the major movie studios such as Warner Brothers and Twentieth Century Fox (20th Century Fox) but realized that you simply had very little talent (or zero talent) in terms of acting abilities and had zero acting experience? To make things worse, you quickly realized that you were average looking and not very beautiful so common sense told you to forget about being in movies and television and simply move on from those silly dreams of yours. Well, if all this seems very familiar, we can safely say how wrong you were in thinking that way because nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, there is a perfect job for people like that (people that are not very beautiful and have zero acting abilities) called the movie extra, television extra, or simply extra.

What Does A Movie Extra Do? What Do Movie Extras And Television Extras Do And Are Movie Extras And Television Extras Paid?

Imagine a job with very long hours (10 hours or 12 hours of work), with very little glory, and very little pay. Now imagine a job where you have very long hours of waiting time and/or standing time all for the chance of being in a movie or on television with no guarantee that you will actually be seen by anyone once the movie or television show is released to the world and that all you will have to show for it is your minimum wage (or almost minimum wage) check (exceptions apply such as SAG extras, etc. which make more than minimum wage). People that accept jobs like these are called movie extras, television extras, or simply extras for short and there is absolutely no shortage of people willing to do these jobs for the major production companies and the major movie studios (which is why they can get away with paying so little).

How To Become An Extra In Movies And Television And The Secrets To Becoming An Extra For Television Shows And An Extra For Television Commercials

People accept these acting jobs for the chance of immortality (you could end up being next to a super famous actress in a worldwide blockbuster movie) and also because those that have been movie and/or television extras quickly realized that being on set was a thrilling experience and extremely exciting. Thus, becoming a movie extra might be the perfect job for you if you are able to put up with being paid minimum wage or very low wages, the extremely long hours on set waiting for a brief moment on camera that may never appear on the movie and/or television screen, and probably getting zero recognition for your work when the final product is released to the public. Also, please note that there are exceptions that are made in the credits and/or pay for featured extras, SAG extras, supermodels, etc. but for the purpose of this discussion we will assume that the person wanting to work as an extra has zero acting skills and abilities, is not a well known model, or is not a member of the “Screen Actors Guild” union since union extras get paid more for their work.

Do Movie Extras Get Paid And If They Do Get Paid How Much Money Do Movie Extras Earn Or Make Per Day?

One of the first questions that our modeling agency is asked when someone asks us about what being a movie extra is like is the question about pay. In particular, people wonder if movie extras get paid for their work since common sense would tell you that if you asked someone if they would like to be included in the next “Superman” movie most people would probably say yes and maybe even do it for free (on a non-paid basis) just for the opportunity to be seen in movie theaters and eventually on television. The problem with that thinking is that there are never any guarantees that you will be seen as a movie extra in which case you would have nothing to show for the 12 or 14 hours that you were on set working. The only thing that you would have to show for your work is the experience of having been on set with famous movie stars but when you tell all your friends about it many might not even believe you since your name will not even be in the final credits at the end of the movie (after all, why should your name be in the credits if you were not even in the movie). This is the reason why movie extras get paid for their work, even if it is minimum wage work (exceptions apply). In other words, when it comes down to how much money you will get paid for working as a movie extra and/or television extra we can safely say that there is very little extra about becoming a movie extra.

How To Become A Paid Movie Extra And The Secrets Of Becoming A Movie Extra For Movies And Television – How To Become A Background Actress

How To Become A Movie Extra And How To Become An Extra For Television Shows And An Extra For Television Commercials
How To Become A Movie Extra And How To Become An Extra For Television Shows And An Extra For Television Commercials – The Secrets Of Becoming An Extra In Movies, Television Shows, And Television Commercials – Do Movie Extras Get Paid?

One of the most important things to know if you would like to become a movie and/or television extra is the terminology (what some key acting words actually mean when you are on set and/or preparing to be on set for actual filming). Below are general explanations of what some common words mean and why they are important if you would like to become a successful television and/or movie extra.

What Does “Pay Scale” Mean?

Movie and television extras make less money than speaking actors (a lot less money) and by speaking we mean even one line. This is why for the most part extras just react but do not speak. They might be able to speak as a group (like cheering for someone), but no individual lines without being bumped up to actor status for that episode. Movie and television extras also generally do not receive any royalties (non-union extras in non-speaking scenes).

What Does It Mean When They Say That A Television Extra Or Movie Extra Needs To Arrive “Camera Ready”?

Movie and television extras are usually instructed to arrive on set “Camera Ready”. This basically means that background extras (background actresses) should arrive completely dressed, with your hair and makeup done, and ready to begin working for the day.

What Does It Mean To Be A “Featured Extra”?

Featured extras for movies and television shows and/or television commercials is when an extra is clearly visible on camera and not just a blur in the background.

What Is A “Holding Room” Or “Holding Area” For Television And Movie Extras?

A “Holding Room” or “Holding Area” is an area where movie and/or television extras are usually sent when not working on the set. It is important for extras to stay in the “Holding Area” when not working (acting on set) so they can easily be located when they are needed.

What Are “Upgrades”?

Similar to when you get a raise or a promotion, an upgrade is when an individual is moved from being an extra to a “Stand In”, “Photo Double”, or a “Principal Actress”. Upgrades also provide higher pay rates.

What Are “Sides”?

Sides are a physically smaller size set of script pages that actresses can easily carry around with them on the set. The Sides only include the pages that will be filmed that day. Actresses use the pages to read and rehearse their scenes as the crew prepares to film.

What Are “Meal Penalties”?

All film productions should break at least once every six hours to allow for cast and crew meals. If production does not halt for meals at least once every six hours then actors and extras are entitled to a “meal penalty” payment for every half hour over the six hours you are not given food.

How Much Money Do Background Actresses Make?

The amount of money that a background actress (or actor) make per day is basically minimum wage (or very close to minimum wage) unless you are a member of the “Screen Actors Guild” which is the union for most of the famous actors that you see in the movie theaters and television (please visit our other sections of our website for detailed information about how to become a member of the “Screen Actors Guild” if you are serious about making serious money and receiving royalties from your work as a main featured actress (movie and television extras can also join the “Screen Actors Guild” union once they meet certain minimum requirements and pay a joining fee which is in the thousands of dollars).

Movie Extra Jobs And Jobs For Movie Extras

In Los Angeles Southern California there are so many jobs and opportunities to become a movie and television extra that you will even find management companies for extras that will help you manage your calls and/or decide what jobs you should take so you can focus on working as an extra during the day and not be worrying about missing future jobs as a movie and/or television extra simply because you could not answer the phone because you were working on set with the main actresses and/or other background actresses (extras).

Is It Safe To Become A Movie And/Or Television Extra?

This is a question that we are not asked very often but in general movie producers, directors, casting directors, and the major movie studios make it their business to make sure that all the necessary safety precautions are met in order to ensure the safety of all actresses and background actresses (movie and television extras). When movie and/or television extras get on the set of an action scene they generally go over safety procedures and precautions. In other words, movie officials insist that the safety of extras and all workers involved in the movie and/or television production is taken extremely seriously in order to avoid serious injuries when filming, specially action scenes.

Can You Have A Career As A Successful Movie Extra And What Are The Advantages Of Becoming A Movie And/Or Television Extra?

Many aspiring actresses believe that even minor film work as a television and/or movie extra will bring them closer to their dream of becoming successful and famous actresses. Many of these actresses pursue these jobs as movie and/or television extras for the thrill and experience of being on set and with the hope that it will lead to a future as a successful actress. Plus, it is also a chance to be on the set with big name and famous actresses.

What Is It Like To Be A Movie And Television Extra?

Many background actresses like to describe extra work as a walking wallpaper. You are there for the actors to play a scene in front of you and you are definitely not there to be the star. There is also little opportunity for extras to rub elbows with big celebrities on the set, but that can vary depending on the specific situation and/or scene being filmed. In other words, you get to see the movie stars and famous actresses, but there are rules. For example, if you are on set and they walk up and talk to you, then you can talk to them. However, if a famous actress walks right past you and does not say a word, then that is what you are expected to do as an extra.

Most extras will be asked to act as though they are speaking but in reality they will not be speaking. This is done so the audio recording can pick up the principal actresses and actors without all the background noise. The sound editors will then add the background noise in post production.

Movie and television extras might pretend to say words while being filmed, but their voices will never be heard on screen. Television and movie extras also work long, irregular hours, sometimes starting at 5 AM and working for ten hours, and sometimes starting at midnight and working for 12 very long hours. Extras also get a meal during long days. Many experienced movie and television extras like to take a good book with them to the “Holding Area” because a lot of their time is spent sitting around waiting. Many industry professionals (casting directors, etc.) also acknowledge that there is little chance that someone will be discovered as an extra and become a major actress overnight. That said, the exposure of being on set with all the major players (directors, casting directors, famous actresses, etc.) can provide experience and opportunities for future contacts.

As a television and movie extra, you get exposure and you will be face to face with the directors and the crew, and when you go to an acting audition later for a major movie and/or television role, somebody there might remember and/or recognize you. In other words, many people believe that it is better to be on a set than not, but others acknowledge that being on set as a movie and/or television extra does more harm than good because it takes valuable time away from an aspiring actress, time that she could be using for casting calls and auditions for major acting roles. On the other hand, movie and television extras are in the business. Movie and television extras go to work at Hollywood studios, are on the stage with famous actresses and movie stars, are offered free food (in many cases it is catered and you are offered all you can eat buffet), and in many cases they may form friendships with the cast and crew. Thus, on the list of the world’s worst jobs, hanging out and/or being on set with famous actresses all day would probably not be one of them.

Not every movie and/or television extra has big ambitions to become a huge movie star, and for some women working as an extra for television shows, television commercials, and/or major movies is mostly about having fun and making some extra money (after all, who doesn’t mind making some extra cash while meeting interesting and famous people). Basically, it is just about having a good time, doing something that you enjoy doing, and making new friends in the entertainment industry (acting industry). It is interesting to note that you also have a group of women that work as extras (background actresses) that have an interest in being an actress but would not mean the end of the world if they end up doing something different as a career (if their acting career takes off, it takes off, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t).

Aspiring actresses know how difficult it is to get started in show business and the entertainment industry. Most beginning actresses simply do not know what to do or where to start. The Highest Paid Actresses In The World – American Actress Sandra Bullock $51 Million Dollars For The Year

ZARZAR MODELS recently released the latest list of the world’s highest paid actresses. Ranked as the highest paid actress on the list of the highest paid actresses in the world is the extremely talented American actress Sandra Bullock with acting earnings of approximately $51 million United States Dollars for the past year. All actress earnings for the past 12 months (from June 2013 to June 2014) are approximate and based on the leading industry sources including Forbes magazine (one of the most prestigious financial magazines in the world and a leader in financial data analysis).

One of the reasons why American actress Sandra Bullock made so much money this past year is because of the huge success of the box office hit movie “Gravity”. The 50 year old actress starred in last year’s space epic “Gravity” which was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed movies of the year. On paper, the movie “Gravity” seemed like a huge risk for the movie studios. The effects heavy movie cost more than $100 million to produce for the Warner Brothers movie studio and featured one woman floating in space (actress Sandra Bullock) for almost the entire movie. The problem is that movies based on original ideas that cost more than $100 million to produce, as opposed to comic books or young adult novels, are rare these days in Hollywood. Movies based on original ideas that cost more than $100 million to produce and feature one actress for the majority of the movie are even rarer in Hollywood.

Despite the odds, the Warner Brothers movie studio had a huge hit with the movie “Gravity” becoming one of the highest grossing movies of 2013 bringing in over $716 million at the global box office. The film was the rare commercial success with much of that success thanks to the outstanding performance of American actress Sandra Bullock. Not only did “Gravity” win seven Oscars (the movie had 10 Oscar nominations) but it also helped actress Sandra Bullock become the highest paid actress not just in Hollywood but in the entire world.

American actress Sandra Bullock did not win the Oscar for “Best Actress” this year (although she did win the Oscar for “Best Actress” in 2010 for the movie “The Blind Side”) but she did walk away with a lot of money (the humble and polite way of saying millions upon millions of United States Dollars). Thanks mostly to the movie “Gravity”, Sandra Bullock ranked as the highest paid actress on the list of the highest paid actresses in the world (the world’s highest paid actresses) with an estimated $51 million in acting earnings for the past year.

The Highest Paid Actresses In The World – American Actress Jennifer Lawrence $34 Million Dollars For The Year

Trailing far behind American actress Sandra Bullock is American actress Jennifer Lawrence who earned approximately $34 million United States Dollars during the past year thanks to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” movies (Jennifer Lawrence also ranked second in the previous year’s ranking of the highest paid actresses in the world but that year she ranked second behind American actress Angelina Jolie). American actress Jennifer Lawrence earned less than $1 million upfront for the first “The Hunger Games” movie. For “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” the 23 year old actress reportedly negotiated a check “somewhere in the $10 million range” according to industry sources (the movie eventually made over $865 million worldwide). Today, Jennifer Lawrence is in a position to demand tens of millions of United States Dollars for future “The Hunger Games” movies as well as a share of the profits and/or revenue.

American actress Jennifer Lawrence stands to earn a lot more from acting for the final two movies in “The Hunger Games” series, so it would not come as a surprise if she eventually becomes the highest paid actress in the world. Jennifer Lawrence also returned to her role as “Mystique” in the latest “X-Men” installment, which was the highest grossing film globally of the “X-Men” franchise.

Who says women can’t be action heroes?
