Michael Kors (born Karl Anderson Jr.) is an American fashion designer born on Long Island, New York and generally based in New York City. Michael Kors is the son of Joan Hamburger, a former fashion model, and her first husband, Karl Anderson, a college student. His mother got remarried to Bill Kors when he was five and legend says that since he was getting a new last name, his mother told him that he could choose a new first name as well so he chose to become Michael David Kors. Michael Kors was interested in fashion since he was very young. His mother thought it may have had something to do with the fact that he was exposed to the fashion and apparel industry through her modeling career.
